Newmarket Canal : ウィキペディア英語版 | Holland River Division
The Holland River Division, almost universally known as the Newmarket Canal, is an abandoned canal project in Newmarket, Ontario. With a total length of about , it was supposed to connect the town to the Trent-Severn Waterway via the East Holland River and Lake Simcoe. Construction began in 1908 and was almost complete in early 1912 when the new government of Robert Borden cancelled the project. The three lift locks, three swing bridges and a turning basin remain largely intact to this day. Known by many nicknames, the best known is Mulock's Madness, named for the chief promoter of the scheme, William Mulock. ==History==
